If you have an interesting or exciting story from the past of Greensburg, feel free to let us know. Submitted By: Joan KoorsThere are many happy memories of the 1959 Greensburg Centennial. My husband, David Koors, had acquired a old one-horse sleigh from his grandparents' estate sale for $1.00. The Centennial Parade Committee was looking for interesting entries. We left them know about the sleigh, which was stored in our barn, and they decided to use it for the vehicle the Queen would ride in. The then "Union Trust Company" painted it white with silver glitter sprinkles and recovered the seat in some beautiful red material. It looked so elegant when they finished. The sleigh was loaded on a float and looked especially beautiful with the Queen riding in it. Another happy memory was when David and I decided to enter the "Old-time" Clothing Contest. David wore my great-grandfather's wedding suit, complete with black top-hat and the beautiful beard David had grown for the Centennial. My dress was my grand-mother's wedding dress, which was purple. The outfit was completed with a beautiful cape, a saucy little hat, gloves and beaded purse. We did win first prize and our picture was included in the video that was made of the 1959 Greensburg Centennial. It was an exciting, fun time! |
